7-402 - Interrogation of Students

Policy 7-402

INTERROGATION OF STUDENTS
In general, interrogation of a student by the police is to be conducted off school premises.  Whenever possible, care will be taken to protect the self-esteem of the student being removed for such interrogation.

Except as enumerated in Policy 7-402A, the police may not remove a student from a school building or its premises for interrogation without consent from the student’s parent or guardian or the student if the student is over 18 years of age. Police interrogation of a student on school grounds will not occur without such consent. In either case, the school administration will immediately attempt to notify the parent(s) or guardian(s) of the removal or request for interrogation. If the interrogation does take place at school, the building administrator or his/her designee shall be present during the interrogation.
