Policy 4-104

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Newtown Public Schools' goals state that the district "will plan for and encourage professional development and will maintain an evaluation program that will ensure a top level professional staff." In order to make a commitment to quality education, the Board of Education shall attempt to provide sufficient funds to plan and implement an ongoing staff development program.

The Board of Education directs the Superintendent of Schools, in consultation with and with the involvement of the staff, to plan and implement such a comprehensive program of staff development. The Superintendent shall develop the criteria under which he or she shall approve a system of courses, workshops, seminars, and other special projects.  The Superintendent shall periodically present reports of the professional development program to the Board of Education.
