GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING

Guidance and counseling are integral and important parts of the instructional program. The Superintendent shall establish a comprehensive program from kindergarten through grade 12 in these fields that is designed to provide the following:
a. Ongoing improvement of the capability of the individual to understand and deal with self and environment in a framework of social and moral values;
b. Assistance to individual students in the development of the ability to make wiser choices of behavior and direction;
c. Specific responsibilities assigned to all professional members of the school system staff for guidance processes in which teachers and guidance specialists collaborate in consultation with pupils, parents, and administrators;
d. All pupils shall have the benefit of guidance;
e. A planned program of appropriate guidance procedures involving, for all age levels, ongoing educational planning, career awareness, testing and appraisal for use by the individual and the school, aid for personal and social problem solving, orientation to new school settings, and assistance to teachers and parents in understanding the students and their progress in school.
